Madame Alexander's Original Quintuplets were produced in 1964 only. She wanted a tie-in with the Fischer quints like she had with her Dionne quint dolls. The family would not authorize use of their name so she produced the set under the generic name of "Original Quintuplets." The dolls are 8" all vinyl bodies with a hard plastic head. The head was made from the Little Genius mold. The dolls have molded painted hair, blue sleep eyes and nursermouth. They are jointed at neck, shoulders and hip.
These dolls are by far the best quality quintuplet set produced to cash in on the Fischers. The dolls were dressed in simple flannel diapers that were hemstitched around the edge and little cross over cotton knit undershirts. They were tucked into a pink flannel bunting for five. It has pink satin ribbon piping the fold-over edge and is accented with one pink rosette and one blue rosette. The babies had bottles wired to their wrists. They were packaged in a box that was a departure from the usual blue flowered Madame Alexander signature box. The quints' box is a window box covered in pink and gray flowers printed on a white background paper. A gold label affixed to the clear window says "Quintuplets by Madame Alexander, Manufacturer of the Original Quintuplets."
Extra clothes were available for the quints. These included long flannel robes, long cotton batiste dresses, long white cotton knit nightgown, short flannel flowered pajamas, cotton batiste flowered flannel pajamas and a short cotton batiste dress. The nightgowns were available with pink or blue piping on the neck. All the other clothing was available in pink or blue. All authentic clothing for the quints was tagged with a white tag with red lettering that said "Mfr. of the Original Quintuplets by Madame Alexander."
